VIVALDI

The VIVALDI project will develop innovative, sustainable and cost-efficient biotechnological solutions to convert off-gas emissions from bio-based industries into CO2-based chemicals. In this way, the industries’ greenhouse gas emissions will not only be reduced, but will be used as a novel feedstock, lowering the dependency on fossil fuels import and the exploitation of key resources such as energy, raw material, freshwater and land. VIVALDI has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101000441. → www.vivaldi-h2020.eu

BOKU

With around 2,200 scientists and 11,000 students, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna is one of the leading life sciences universities in Europe. Thanks to the combination of natural sciences, technology and social and economic sciences, research and teaching are characterised by a holistic approach to problems. With this inter- and intradisciplinary way BOKU addresses challenges dealing with sustainability, climate impacts, resource scarcity, environmental protection, food and health security. → www.boku.ac.at

Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology is a leading institution for research and education, focusing on Biotechnology for Health and Biotechnology for a Sustainable Future. They develop novel concepts and solutions for the well-being of individuals, society and the environment. Their scientific approaches and methodologies include molecular biotechnology, synthetic biology, bioprocess technology, cell biology, bioanalytics, genome-scale data science, mathematical modelling, as well as techno-economic evaluations. By interdisciplinary integration of our scientific results, they provide solutions with industrial applicability.

Institute of Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology

The IMMB investigates microorganisms of relevance to industry and the environment. They study their genetics, cell biology and metabolism with state-of-the-art systems and synthetic biology methods, and engineer them for better performance in industrial bioprocesses.
